Today I ran my first ever half marathon. 13.1 miles. I didn’t think I had it in me. I really didn’t.
Yesterday I decided that I would train to run a half marathon after knowing I could run 9 miles already I decided to push my body to its absolute limit and do 13.3 miles in the end. I’m exhausted and my times weren’t great but I did it. I’m so proud when I look back at how far, fitness wise I’ve come.
To think only 4 years ago I was morbidly obese at 21 stones and now I’m 12 stones and can run 13.3! Physically I’m exhausted. Mentally I’m shocked. I broke my runs up into 3x 3.1mile runs to include a toilet stop. And 4 miles for the last one. Mentally I found it easier running 4x 5km in my head then seeing the big miles numbers silly I know but really helped me. Music helped a lot too.
To top things off I even ran the whole thing. No walking or messing about. I really didn’t know how far my body could take me. (Yes I can feel the DOMS setting in already but it’s worth it.)
If I can do it so can you. What’s your excuse?
